The Sasaki Foundation announced today the finalists for its fourth annual Sasaki Foundation Design Grants program. These seven teams will pitch to a panel of judges on Wednesday, May 25, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the new Lamplighter CX location. The Design Grants are an annual competition to showcase projects that support and drive interdisciplinary innovation and empower our local communities.
Today, the Sasaki Foundation announces our 2022 Design Grants call for proposals. The Design Grants are an annual program seeking interdisciplinary, creative approaches to test new design concepts in communities in Greater Boston, the Gateway Cities, and Metro West. Since 2018, the Sasaki Foundation has received 52 applications representing more than 70 communities, and has awarded more than $170,000 through the program. Read more about our most recent grant winners here.
Check out our newly released 2020-2021 Design Grants Research Report to learn more about our third cohort’s work, offering innovative solutions to address gender inequities, economic mobility, and displacement, with an ongoing impact in Greater Boston and beyond. The report also highlights updates from our Design Grants alumni along with the latest on the Mobility Innovator, a year-long initiative in 2020, funded by the Barr Foundation and in partnership with Sasaki, that addresses mobility challenges in the Boston region through the lenses of resiliency and equity.
Meet the Columbia Road Gender and Mobility Initiative team, a project that explores the mobility limitations that stem from gender inequities, particularly the gendered experiences of streets.
This week, the Sasaki Foundation published a report with compelling research from the 2019-2020 cohort of the Sasaki Foundation Design Grants, summarizing three innovative and impactful community-based projects. The projects address a range of challenges, from improving emergency homeless shelters, to exploring methods to increase energy resilience, to tackling gentrification in Boston’s Chinatown. The report also includes research from the two Sasaki Foundation Community Grants teams, who participated alongside the research cohort in the Incubator at Sasaki.
